It just doesn't get any better--or bigger than this in high-power rocketry. Volunteers help lift Wedge Oldham's 700-pound, 30-foot-tall Black Brandt on to the mechanized launch pad at the Back Rock Desert in Northern Nevada in 2004. The rocket was powered by three Darren Wright P motors.
The 700-pound rocket screamed off the pad under the simultaneous ignition of the three P motors. The rocket climbed to more than 18,000 feet before returning in great condition in two seperate sections. The main booster dropped to the ground softly under a 47-foot-wide military surplus parachute.
